Congratulations YHS TEACHERS & STAFF!

Yucaipa High School teachers and staff deserve the recognition for this accomplishment that the district office administration and school board will surely brag about.

President Oedekerk and Supt. Hovey need to be reminded that without QUALITY teachers, a school is just a collection of buildings, fields, asphalt patches and concrete. Yucaipa teachers are the LOWEST PAID in the region. You can't expect to attract quality teachers in the future or retain the quality teachers you currently have when you insult them. We don't want to see the Distinguished School Banner become the backdrop for teachers striking on Yucaipa Blvd.

Do the right thing! Settle now!

614 days without a settlement!

Apparently, Jim O doesn't know the difference between a California Distinguished School, and a California Distinguished District Office and/or Board. Using the hard work of the YHS staff, students and site administration to make political hay for the District officials was a low blow, even by his low standards. I sensed a touch of desperation in the comments Jim O made in the Local section of today's (4/17) Press Enterprise. Maybe the News Mirror will give some credit where credit is really due. Way to go YHS! Hopefully Mitch can use the hard work at YHS as padding for his resume; I hope he hasn't given up on his job search just yet ;-)

I think it is fair to say that YHS was awarded the Distinguished School status DESPITE the District's efforts, not BECAUSE of them. In what tangible way has the District office or Board made your classroom a better place lately?

I can confirm that it is through the great staff and administration that YHS has received this honor. The assistance of a year of great sophomores (spring '06) didn't hurt either.

I can additionally confirm that this achievement was NOT a result of anything helpful coming from third street. Our curriculum leaders up there have been remarkable only for their lack of anything meaningful coming from their offices. How did these people actually manage to get these high paying jobs????

People get hired at the district office if they agree with the other people at the district office. You must follow lock step. It is an old girls network more or less.

Cronyism makes their world go 'round... Inbreeding is best, relatively speaking... It's not what you know, it's who you know... Our DO's family tree doesn't have very many branches...

Oops, I for got another: The Peter Principle from business management. "Any manager will rise to his/her level of incompetence".

I am glad YHS was honored. I just wish ALL the staff could go tgo the great dinner program in the future. All the staff works all the time for less and less money.

Please go to the White Rabbit coffee house. The owner had a support sign for the teachers. Someone removed it. Several people told him he should not have it posted. Please go by an buy coffee and tell Robbie you appreicate his support. His mother is a teacher in San Bernardino. Robbie amd his brother Andrew went to YHS.

I find it incredibly sad that YHS will be losing some of the truly great teachers who contribute so much to making us a Distinguished School. Does anybody know how long the "Distinguished School" classification lasts? If we don't get a decent settlement soon, YHS will become a "Distinguished Teacher Training Institute" as those who notice the leaks abandon the sinking ship that is YCJUSD.

Mitch's "Distinguished" exit strategy? I hope so!
