Help Wanted!

Know of any SCIENCE TEACHERS who are credentialed and qualified to teach biology, chemistry, physics, etc?

If they don't mind teaching in one of the LOWEST PAYING districts in the region, they may be able to get a job in Yucaipa.

Word has it that Yucaipa High is going to be needing a boat load of science teachers next year to replace all the ones who have jumped ship to take teaching positions with higher pay and better working conditions in neighboring districts.

Oh...we forgot. Yucaipa doesn't have any problems attracting highly qualified teachers despite having rock bottom pay. The over supply of eager applicants must be why the administration chose to not show up at teacher job fairs sponsored by the University of Redlands and UC Riverside. Please disregard the above announcement.

622 days without a settlement!

Interesting that these positions were posted on the district's Edjoin website on 4/12, and we all received assurances from the district that the teacher exodus is a myth on 4/19. Is science a "specialized teaching post open in another district"? Then again, maybe an aversion to Bu**Sh*t qualifies as a "health or family problem". Seems that the board, or whomever is doing the talking for them, is lying to us again/still. "Just the Facts" indeed!

The last time the district hired a chemistry teacher was nine years ago. They need two new ones. There is no one at the high school next year who is NCLB compliant to teach Physics. Will they hire the position, let the class die, or involuntarily transfer someone from another school who can teach it? Or maybe we can farm out the whole science program to Crafton or online courses? Interesting times lie ahead.

Once again, the News-Mirror is missing in action on all of the problems in this district. At least the groundbreaking for Elementary #8, the Sherry Kendrick Center for Standardized Curriculum and New Teacher Training, was held at an intersection, and not in the middle of an inaccessible field.

FYI - The strike in Hayward is over, they reached a TA last night. Check www://kgo.com for the details. No specifics have been released yet; that's supposed to happen today. The news story cited parent and teacher support at a School Board meeting for bringing the district back to the table.

I heard Mitch has a background in biology. Maybe he can step up to the plate and teach some bio classes at YHS until some replacement science teachers are hired.

No evidence on the CTC website supports Mitch's claim to have a Biology credential. Then again, we might not be able to find better than him to fill the (mythical) open science positions.

Wait a second.....Mitch doesn't have a credential????? Anyone wanna tell me how it is that he has a position as a Superintendent without one???

A superintendent doesn't have to have a teaching credential.

But a superintendant still needs to be honest on his resume'. Hopefully, what is in his file squares with reality. I'm sure Sherry would be happy to check up on this one. In (possibly) related news, the dean of MIT admitted lying on his resume' today on cnn.com.

BTW, lying on a job application is grounds for dismissal. If the rumors are true, and the board really does want Mitch gone, this would be a perfect mechanism for doing this without Mitch's "golden parachute". Shoot, they went after a YHS teacher for this a few years ago, and that teacher didn't stand a chance!
