This Board Needs a Priority Adjustment

Teachers in Yucaipa and Calimesa have been told, in no uncertain terms, that we are not a priority in the budget. If the people who work with kids daily are not a priority, what is? Apparently it's a 1.5 million dollar football field and track. At a recent school board meeting, the Board was told that fundraising efforts had fallen short - 900 thousand dollars short! At this point they could have pulled the plug on the project. Instead, the Board voted to proceed and send phase one (at a projected cost of 1.08 million dollars) out to bid. My question is, where will the money come from to cover the short-fall? Jim Hoyt asked this very question. Patti Ingram suggested that cuts could be made in other areas to make up the difference. That's a pretty big difference! I wonder what else might be cut: Classroom supplies, textbooks, copying, instructional aids? When the community said this project was not a priority (by not funding it) the Board should have recognized the same and followed suite.

Didn't the high school principal offer to commit $10,000 a year out of his discretionary account, too? Imagine the impact THAT will make on classrooms!

I am appalled that a principal would even suggest using moneies that are classroom monies to fund a football field!!!! Where's the testing in that!!!! Get real Yucaipa! Since when is a football field more important than placing textbooks, copies and supplies in the hands of our teachers and students!!!!!g

I AM SHOCKED AND APPALLED SO MUCH MONEY IS GOING TO A FOOTBALL FIELD, WHEN IT COULD BE GOING TO MY KIDS EDUCATION AND OUR TEACHERS. THIS BOARD DOES NOT LISTEN TO IT'S COMMUNITIES VOICE AND WHAT WE ARE DEMANDING. SINCE WHEN IS A FOOTBALL FIELD MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR KIDS EDUCATION AND TEACHERS. OUR BOARD JUST DOES NOT USE THEIR HEADS FOR WORK. IT'S ALL PLAY FOR THEM!!!

Cutting instructional aids, HMMM where have I heard that before? OH that's right, Joyella lost her job and swore to be sure that teachers and classified employees would be treated fairly if she was elected to the board. I even donated personally to her campaign. My how people change when given power. YCJUSD has taken in an unbelievable amount of money. Pay your teachers, hire your classroom aids, buy new text books.... Remember why you were voted onto this board and stop following people whose vision you joined this board to stop!

Our steadily declining work conditions and wages have proven that the District Administration and Board cannot be reasoned with. It is time for the community to rise up and "Throw the Bums Out!" Nothing else will change the steepening downward spiral this district is caught in. It is not a priority adjustment the board needs; it is a new board and new district leadership that the community needs. Words without action are impotent.
