How many other of Mitch's previous employers bade him farewell in this manner? Remember, he only did the bidding of the Board. He will leave, but the Board will attempt to hang its problems on him as he goes.
The board will attempt to use him as a scapegoat. I'm not exonerating him, but the buck did not stop in his office.
Please, let us not forget that it is the board who are ultimately responsible for the last two years of confrontation. These people don't respect us. Bottom line, they need to go! They used us to get elected in the first place, and we have the power to remove them.
The campaign to oust them begins now. The battle may be over, but the war is far from over. Please, none of us should forget this.
Contract ratified!!! Dr. Hovey departing!!! Can't do much about the Board today but we don't have to sit quietly by and let them continue to make poor choices for our students and our sites. Let's use this momentum to keep the pressure on for them to do the right things. We need input on the replacement for Dr. Hovey and we need to let that person know we ARE a group to be worked with not worked around. Again thank you, YCEA negotiations team, crisis team, Exec Board and Rep Council for your guidance and direction these long two years. Have a great end of the year to one and all!!!
Wow. I just read the articles in the NM, Press and Sun regarding access to Mesa View. This agreement is going to cost the District a small fortune! A 1 mile extension of Sandalwood Drive ($5.75 million), legal fees (possibly from both sides, ???), Sound reducing windows for homes on Avenue L ($81,000), an updated Environmental Impact Statement, and the list goes on! I wouldn't be surprised if the General Fund cost of our "Free" school is close to ten million dollars, and it probably still won't open until August of 2008. Though labor negotiations are over for now, and with a bit of luck, Dr. Hovey is leaving; the Board still has a lot of 'splainin to do. The entire community needs to hold their feet to the fire for their errors in judgement. The overwhelming arrogance shown by the Board is the root cause of all of their problems. Good luck to all of you who are choosing to stay in Yucaipa!
Can anybody post the new salary schedule in its entirety? Also, how will this schedule relate to teachers that join the district in the upcoming 2007-08 school year? Thank you!
Does the 5.8 million dollar figure include money already spent on legal fees, consulting, landscaping, maintainence, repair etc? One of the papers called the 2008-09 opening a one year delay! More like five or six years methinks!
Our office manager is working as quickly as she can to get the salary schedules up on the YCEA website. Shouldn't take much longer. Teachers new to the District this coming August will be on the 2006-7 schedule with everyone else, and will get the 3.5% raise in Feb 08, too.
We are teachers, counselors, and school psychologists, all giving our best for the children of Yucaipa-Calimesa. We ask that we be treated fairly and professionally.

The celebration will really take off if we find out that Fullerton took Mitch off our hands.
Remember everybody...say only nice things about Mitch if you are asked.

And now we hear that the road issue is settled, to the tune of $5.8 million. Interesting times.
